Spring Melt 1, prior to firing |
Living on a ridge, we see the action first hand, and I've been inspired to work on a new line of sculptural glass called Spring Melt. I photographed Spring Melt 1 prior to firing, (right), and again after firing, in its mount (below). I'm firing these pieces so they retain relief on the surface, and have a real sense of the rushing water mingling with ice and snow, flowing over the rock ridges.
I can't wait to get a few of these ready and have them professionally shot by my go-to photographer, Kelly Holinshead. In the meantime, I have another version in the kiln right now, and will soon make another large version to fit an 18" wide mounting stand. The piece shown here is approx.9" x 13", with the stand. It will be exhibited at the Summit Centre beginning April 17, as part of the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour exhibition, which will run until July 15 2012.
